Backup and IDrive

Last updated: 22 October 2026. as of October 2026.

Backup encrypts on your device. The recovery key never leaves you, so Alix cannot read the files, even if asked. If you lose that key, we cannot recover the data. Your backups are stored in Switzerland. Free is 100 MB with no card. Starter is $1.99 a year for 5 GB, Plus $9.99 for 30 GB, Pro $24.99 for 75 GB, Max $99 for 300 GB, and Ultra $299 for 1 TB, all yearly. Paid checkout says Coming soon. A computer connects with an agent, a command-line client, or MCP. The agent can add backups and cannot read or delete them.

IDrive's pricing page lists Mini at $0.25 a month for 100 GB. Personal shows a 5 TB plan at $11.99 a month and a discounted $6.99 a month. The page says the discount applies to the first year and the standard price applies after that. A two-year 5 TB personal plan is listed at $179.82. The help text says a free 10 GB basic account exists.

IDrive's security FAQ says a private encryption key is optional and is not stored on IDrive's servers. The default key is one you do not have to remember. The same FAQ says a web restore decrypts on an intermediate processor rather than only on your computer. Zero-knowledge is therefore optional, and the web path is described by IDrive as a compromise.
